DIY Energy Wind Turbine

Image
Finally you can rest your green conscience by building your own wind powered generator. This DIY wind turbine   is easy to build especially since the authors show you how with step-by-step instructions. The wind turbine is unsophisticated in design but efficient as it produces about 84 Watts with 30mph winds. It won’t eliminate your entire electricity bill, but it’ll help you start your journey into the alternative energy movement.  Check out our   DIY Free Energy tutorials and more details below. Most of the parts needed to assemble the make-at-home wind turbine can be salvaged making the total build pretty cheap. The author’s website at  Velacreations.com  guides you through the nitty-gritty of putting the contraption together.  So go ahead, give this windmill a whirl. Reduce your electric bill and your carbon footprint in one go. Parts font size       Print   Email Tagged under   energy ...

HOW TO BUILD CHEAP WIND GENERATOR USING OLD FLOPPY DRIVE

Image
Mini floppy  wind generator  is a quite simple DIY project. Even though it looks like a toy, mini wind generator can be used in various situations. Especially if you are camping, fishing, sailing or anyplace where power greed is not available. Our wind generator can be used to recharge AA/AAA batteries (Ni-Cd, Ni-Mh…), mobile phones, MP3 players or for direct energy supply of smaller light bulbs ( LED lights ) or similar devices that draw up to few watts. The “heart” of mini wind generator is made of parts salvaged from an old 5.25″ floppy drive! Our first choice was to use stepper motor taken out of old floppy drive for several reasons. PC technology is “aging” very quickly, thus floppy drive can be obtained very cheap, in most cases even free of charge. Stepper motors are very convenient for small wind generators because they do not need any kind of gearing mechanism and the rotor can be attached directly to a turbine (propeller) which is simplifying cons...

Mini DIY 12" Wind turbine

Image
updated 22-02-10 This was a very successful project, I used an off the shelf  3 bladed propeller, beautifully balanced and extremely strong, made from glass filled nylon, they are designed as 'pusher' props and can spin at up to an amazing 13 000 rpm when driven by a radio control plane engine. I suspect just 2000 rpm will be my max as a wind generator. I am using this propeller mounted backwards, so the flat side is facing forwards and the true aerofoil is on the back. Having the blades pre made allowed me to focus my attention on matching the alternator to the blades characteristics, having seen Ed Lenz's work over on  Windstuff now  using radial air core alternators, I decided to work along similar lines. The benefit being, no iron in the design therefore no  cogging   effect that would kill a tiny wind turbine (mechanical resistance making it barely start up). I sourced a very powerful N42 Neodymium cylinder magnet  here  that differs...

2014 MBA Ranking From The Financial Times

Image
January 27, 2014 Harvard Business School topped  The Financial Times ‘ 2014 global MBA ranking for the second year in a row and the fifth time since the  FT  began ranking full-time MBA programs in 1999. Stanford Graduate School of Business held on to its second place finish of last year, but Wharton slipped from its third-place perch to fourth, replaced by London Business School. Columbia Business School and INSEAD shared fifth place. The bigger news in the new ranking, published today, had to do with other prominent U.S. schools. Yale University’s School of Management jumped four places to tenth in the world, its first appearance among the top 10 in seven years. Only two years ago,  The Financial Times had ranked Yale 20th in the world. Yet, curiously, the school’s weighted salaries for alumni fell to $150,880 from $159,370 a year earlier and the average increase over pre-MBA pay also dropped to 114% from 118% in 2013. The Univer...

Riviera Maya: An Accidental Honeymoon

by  Elizabeth Seward   ( RSS feed )  on Apr 25th 2013 at 1:00PM I was in  Mexico  last December, just before the 21st of the month. The date would come and go without catastrophe, of course, but the fringe theories had brought  Maya  culture to the forefront of the media and I took the opportunity to learn a bit about the ancient and modern Maya myself. My time spent in  Merida  was grueling, but rewarding. My room at  Hotel Dolores Alba , which was located near the noisy downtown center of the city, had a shower that spilled water from the bathroom into the rest of the room when used. When I swapped out that room for another, I was happy to find my luggage still dry after a shower. I propped a chair up against the flimsy door at night because the lock was wobbly. I mysteriously watched a disturbing movie starring  Ashley Greene  all the way to the end while taking a break from the sun one afternoon. I had black coffee...
