The World’s Most Exclusive Auto Show
For only the price of a new set of wheels, Icelink will give you the keys to a Bentley Continental GT and the services of a bodyguard for one year. The catch: Icelink’s wheels, which are studded with diamonds and sapphires, are valued at one million dollars.
Now in its fifth year, Top Marques bills itself as the “only live supercar show in the world.” This is not meant to imply that there are plenty of dead supercar shows, floating face down somewhere in the cool blue waters of the French Riviera. The “live” part refers to the cars being drivable and not just static displays. Lucky visitors with the right connections (probably of the Swiss bank account variety) can drive many of the exhibited cars on public roads, following the same twisty route of the annual Monaco Grand Prix.
Exhibitors include the expected A-list of the sports and luxury car world — Ferrari, Lamborghini, Aston Martin, Bentley and Mercedes-Benz. But part of Top Marques’ appeal is that it also allows smaller companies the chance to dazzle the rich and famous. For anyone torn between buying a carbon-fiber bodied Pagani Zonda, a 250-mile-per-hour Koenigsegg CCR, or a Dutch-built Spyker C12, Top Marques might be the only show where you’ll find these otherworldly creations under the same roof.
A personal favorite is SpadaConcept’s Codatronca sports car. Set to make its production-ready debut, the Codatronca is based on a humble Corvette, despite having an exterior that looks more like a B2 stealth bomber. Law enforcement officials will certainly appreciate the Codatronca’s externally mounted digital speedometer, located within the rear window. It makes about as much sense as, say, a million-dollar set of wheels!By Nick Kurczewski
