The study, the details of which were published in the Royal Society's Journal Biology Letters, examined the spiders' dimensions and distribution. It looked at amber from the Dominican Republic and Poland, and was the first time that a comparison of organisms trapped in amber had been possible. Palaeoarachnologist Dr. David Penney, the leader of the team, from the University of Manchester's School of Earth, Atmospheric and Environmental Sciences, made the following comment regarding the study: "Amber provides a unique window into past forest ecosystems.
