Mechanical Pond Filtration Included in every pond kit is a stainless steel mechanical  pond filter . The filter is constructed of 316 surgical grade stainless steel and features a fine mesh to catch any potentially damaging debris or string algae. Water is swept through the  pond skimmer  and into the mechanical pond filter where it is kept until the filter is cleaned. Cleaning the mechanical pond filter is pretty simple, smiply open the access cap, pull the filter out by the handle, hose it off and replace.
