Godfather of Karachi, resident of Edgware This entry was posted on May 14, 2013, in  Pakistan Yesterday I called upon the Commissioner of the Metropolitan Police to arrest a British citizen for incitement to murder. It is an open and shut case. You can watch his lips move on television, broadcast from London, in the wake of the controversial election count in the giant port city of Karachi, Pakistan. Hussain openly threatened the young democracy protesters agitating for a re-run of the election there that he would have them cut them down with swords. No-one should think this mere rhetoric, Hussain is already convicted in Pakistan for multiple murder extortion organised crime and terrorist offences. That’s why he lives in Edgware. In fact he is chief suspect in over 100 murder cases, including in England in the murder of one of his own leading comrades. Five years ago I gave a  speech in Parliament  asking why the then New Labour government was not o...

Election Day: The Battle in Pakistan & Washington to Stop Imran Khan

Shirin Sadeghi Independent TV & Radio Host, ex-BBC & Al Jazeera When the mighty do not fall, they are felled, but Imran Khan is still going strong despite serious injuries this week at a campaign rally. He's come a long way since  I first interviewed him in 2011 : he's the most important person in Pakistan right now and the biggest election in his country's history is all about him. Sharif, sweating under the grand lights of his stage, with a combover lightly flapping in the night's breeze, and his microphone being held for him by a hand other than his, was -- as his campaign has been -- focused on Khan. Kha...

The U.S. and NATO should withdraw from Afghanistan

An Open Letter From Pakistan To President Obama By Imran Khan published in the Forbes Magazine on 29 Jan 09 Dear President Obama, Your extraordinary ascent to the U.S. Presidency is, to a large part, a reflection of your remarkable ability to mobilize society, particularly the youth, with the message of "change." Indeed, change is what the world is yearning for after eight long and almost endless years of carnage let loose by a group of neo-cons that occupied the White House. Understandably, your overarching policy focus would be the security and welfare of all U.S. citizens and so it should be. Similarly, our first and foremost concern is the protection of Pakistani lives and the prosperity of our society. We may have different social and cultural values, but we share the fundamental values of peace, harmony, justice and equality before law. No people desire change more than the people of Pakistan, as we have suffered the most since 9/11, despite the fact that none of the...
