Beware of Bitcoin's possible incompatibility with some major services

11 October 2017 Summary A subsection of the Bitcoin economy including prominent businesses such as Coinbase, Xapo, and BitPay have signed an agreement to adopt and implement a contentious hard fork of Bitcoin  sometime  in November. A hard fork is a backwards incompatible change to the Bitcoin network. This hard fork is not supported by the majority of the Bitcoin users and developers and is therefore a contentious hard fork. By adopting this hard fork, we believe the supporters of this agreement are shifting their users to an alternative currency (an altcoin) which is incompatible with Bitcoin. The signatories of this agreement wrongly believe that the currency created by adopting this contentious hard fork will eventually become Bitcoin. Therefore storing any BTC on services such as Coinbase, Bitpay and Xapo is strongly not recommended. By storing BTC on these services, you could find that after the hard fork, your BTC has been renamed to something else or replaced e...

As China arrives, Pakistan cleans house Wajahat S. Khan   July 10, 2015 Chinese President Xi Jinping with Pakistani Army Chief General Raheel Sharif during his visit to Islamabad in April. Th e Sino-Pak axis has matured. The decades old 'Cheen-Pak Bhai Bhai' narrative is fast moving beyond pan-Karakoram fraternal rhetoric complemented by scenically exotic highways, shared rocket designs and muted nuclear deals to morph into optically sound, fundamentally critical, even mutually loud and proud policy, infrastructure and defense initiatives on the ground. China - and not just its submarines - is coming to Pakistan, and Pakistan is getting ready to receive the People's Republic. The 'Bhai' in Beijing, as the mood in Islamabad indicates, is now a BFF - Best Friend Forever - even a Friend With Benefits. AP Photo Shane Harris DEVIL’S DUE 07.14.15 7:00 PM ET John Kerry denied it. So did Iran’s foreign minister. But the world’s most notorious spymaster stands to benefit—big time—from the accord with Tehran. Among the big winners in the  agreement  to curtail Iran’s nuclear program, count a notorious and shadowy Iranian general who helped Shiite militias in Iraq kill American soldiers and who has come to the rescue of Syrian dictator Bashar al-Assad. You’ll find his name,  Qasem Soleimani , buried in an annex ( PDF ) of the unremittingly dense  Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action , along with some of his colleagues from the senior ranks of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps, as well as its various divisions and corporate fronts. They’ll all be granted some sanctions relief as part of the U.S.-brokered deal to  curtail Iran’s development of a nuclear weapon . That Soleimani—who runs Iran’s elite paramilitary and covert operations group, the Quds F...
