18 of the most awesome inventions that appeared this year This year has seen the appearance of many awesome new inventions which help make life easier, more comfortable — and in some cases — more enjoyable. We decided to pick out 18 of the most interesting. Hopefully, we’ll live to seem them all take on a major role in our lives! The Transparent Truck © samsung    Every year, thousands of people get hurt or die in traffic accidents, in part because their visibility gets blocked by a lumbering vehicle. This is especially true in Argentina, known for its winding, narrow roads. There, however, Samsung and ad agency Leo Burnett have partnered on a creative solution: a system that relays video footage from the front of a truck to four screens on its back, giving drivers a clear view of what’s ahead. ...

World’s Top 15 Most Amazing Elevators… #7 Will Take Your Breath Away.

By  Leilani LifeBuzz Staff The need for elevators has existed for longer than you might think. In 236 B.C., the Greek mathematician Archimedes designed a rudimentary elevator using ropes and a rotating spindle called a capstan. The Romans used a hauling device called a winch and counterweights to lift gladiators and animals up to the arena for battle. Transporting goods, people, and livestock were some of the main reasons there was a need for these early shafts. Another reason included privacy. Louis XV had a few contraptions called the flying chair, for his mistress, and the flying table, for private dining affairs. The modern elevator had its beginnings in the early 1800s, and by 1853, American industrialist Elisha Graves Otis introduced something spectacular at the New York Crystal Palace exposition: an elevator with a safety feature that broke the cab's fall in case the ropes broke, a common problem at the time. Four years later, the first passenger el...

JAPAN FIRES THE WORLD'S MOST POWERFUL LASER

REMEMBER: WATT IS THE UNIT OF POWER By   Dave Gershgorn   Posted  Yesterday at 9:47pm The Asahi Shimbun The LFEX petawatt laser. Researchers at Osaka University  are claiming  to have fired the most powerful laser in the world. The 2-petawatt (two quadrillion watt) pulse lasted just one picosecond (a trillionth of a second). For a rough comparison, in 2013, a 50 kilowatt (50,000 watt) laser  shot down a drone two kilometers away . Osaka's mega-powerful laser is called  LFEX , or Laser for Fast Ignition Experiments, and measures more than 300 feet long. While two petawatts is a formidable amount of power, the idea of a petawatt laser isn’t new. The United States has a few of their own, notably a  one-petawatt laser  at the University of Texas at Austin. Michael Donovan, associate director for the Texas Petawatt, says that it’s important to remember when talking about lasers of this size that, while the power ...

The 9 most elite special forces in the world

Image
TOMAS HIRST   MAY 13 2015, Elite special forces are some of the best-trained and formidable units that a country can boast. They go where other soldiers fear to tread, scoping out potential threats, taking out strategic targets, and conducting daring rescue missions. These really are the best of the best. Although it’s extremely difficult to rank these forces relative to each other, there are some units that rise above the rest in terms of their track record and the fear they instill in their adversaries. These soldiers have been through weeks of rigorous training exercises explicitly designed to weed out those who can’t hit their exacting standards. In a world where the importance of the sheer size of a country’s military forces is no longer a guide to their effectiveness, these soldiers are the ones state’s look to in order to get the job done. 9) US Marines are pretty hardcore in their own right. Below, a US Marine drinks the blood of a cobra during a jung...
