The tamasha will never end - In the Line of Fire

Forget the chase. Cut to the crap. Unable to deliver, Nawaz Sharif has diverted the national conversation from Pakistan’s terminal problems to trying Gen. Pervez Musharraf for alleged ‘high treason’ under Article 6 of the constitution. In so doing, has Nawaz Sharif unwittingly put himself in the line of fire yet again? Bad habits die hard. But hang on. Could it be that the army chief Gen. Ashfaq Parvez Kayani (and the army by extension) is the prime target because Musharraf is to be tried only for the November 3, 2007 emergency: the Proclamation of Emergency includes him and others whom Musharraf “consulted”. Could it be that Chief Justice Iftikhar Chaudhry is the second target if legitimizing the October 12, 1999 countercoup comes into the fray, which it will have to? So as ‘aiders and abettors’, Kayani better keep his gun holstered and the chief justice behave. How simplistically obvious can you get? The country’s attention has been diverted, but for how long? As our terminal p...

Instants

by Sofia Zaman on Sunday, July 1, 2007  If I could live again my life, In the next - I'll try, - to make more mistakes, I won't try to be so perfect, I'll be more relaxed, I'll be more full - than I am now, In fact, I'll take fewer things seriously, I'll be less hygenic, I'll take more risks, I'll take more trips, I'll watch more sunsets, I'll climb more mountains, I'll swim more rivers, I'll go to more places - I've never been, I'll eat more ice creams and less (lime) beans, I'll have more real problems - and less imaginary ones, I was one of those people who live prudent and prolific lives - each minute of his life, Offcourse that I had moments of joy - but, if I could go back I'll try to have only good moments, If you don't know - thats what life is made of, Don't lose the now! I was one of those who never goes anywhere without a thermometer, without a hot-water bottle, and with...

Hell Explained By A CHemistry Student

Sofia Zaman  on Wednesday, May 2, 2007  The following is an actual question given on University of Washington chemistry mid-term. The answer by one student was so "profound" that the professor shared it with colleagues, via the Internet, which is why we now have the pleasure of enjoying it as well : Bonus Question: Is Hell exothermic (gives off heat) or endothermic (absorbs heat)? Most of the students wrote proofs of their beliefs using Boyle's Law (gas cools when it expands and heats when it is compressed) or some variant. One student, however, wrote the following: First, we need to know how the mass of Hell is changing in time. So we need to know the rate at which souls are moving into Hell and the rate at which they are leaving. I think that we can safely assume that once a soul gets to Hell, it will not leave. Therefore, no souls are leaving. As for how many souls are entering Hell, let's look at the different religions that exist in the wo...

Mother, When will my brother die

VITZ “INSERT MAP CD” SOLUTION

Image
By   Moonis ( zaitron )   on   December 3, 2010 For those of you who have a JDM navigation system installed in their Toyota (vitz, belta, axio, etc) and get the following message on their navigation system “INSERT MAP CD”, i have the solution for you. All that the system needs is a boot CD that will bypass this message. After that you will be able to use most of the features of the system like controlling the treble/base, maintenance log, etc. Everything, apart from the actual GPS navigation will be activated (for that, you require a map file of Pakistan, which unfortunately isn’t available for any system apart from Garmin). Usually you can go to the market (audio stores) and pay Rs.500-2000 for them to unlock your system. Instructions: First thing you need to do is to know the model number of the system you have installed in your car, for eg, NDCN W55 etc. (Model number is usually written at the bottom right of the unit). After that, download the ...

Film review: Man of Steel

POSTED  ON JUNE 23, 2013 BY ED MORRISSEY Note: Some mild spoilers included . Faster than a speeding bullet!  More powerful than a locomotive!  Able to leap tall buildings in a single   bound!   If that sounds a little old-fashioned and cheesy, then the reboot of the Superman series is for you.  Unlike its film and television predecessors,  Man of Steel dispenses with the cheese in favor of grit, and exchanges familiar character profiles for something more modern and realistic. In this version of the DC Comics classic, Krypton is rent both literally and figuratively.  Jor-El (Russell Crowe) and Lara (Ayalet Zurer) produce the first natural birth in centuries on Krypton, which takes on a very  Brave New World- meets- The Matrix  tone in the opening sequences.  As the planet reels toward destruction, General Zod (Michael Shannon) attempts a coup while Jor-El sends the newborn Kal rocketing toward Earth along with the “cod...
